Description
This tote is built from three bonded layers of cotton canvas rather than a single sheet, which is why it stands up on its own, keeps a clean edge and does not collapse when it is half empty. The contrast webbing handles run from the top edge down the front of the bag, spreading the load and adding a graphic stripe, while the snap gusset lets the bag open wide for packing and narrow again for carrying.
It is a made-to-order wholesale style for brands, retailers, schools and event teams. Size is fully custom, the body is canvas, and branding can be applied by UV printing, heat transfer or screen printing. MOQ is 200 pieces and the reference price is US$9.00 per unit.
What Three-Layer Construction Changes
A single-layer canvas tote folds in on itself and sags between the handles as soon as it is loaded. Three layers change that: the outer canvas carries the print and the abrasion, a middle layer adds body, and the lining closes the bag so the seams and the back of the print are never visible.
The result is a flat, stable base and a top edge that stays upright while it is packed, which matters on a retail shelf, at a checkout and in an unboxing. The extra body also protects boxed goods, bottles and flat items better than a soft shopper.
This is different from using a heavier single canvas. A heavier canvas adds weight but still folds; the bonded structure adds stiffness while keeping the hand-feel of textile.
Construction Details
- Outer: 12 oz cotton canvas as standard; 10 oz and 14 oz available.
- Middle layer: reinforcing canvas or non-woven core, bonded across the full panel.
- Lining: cotton or polyester, matching or contrast, with an interior zip pocket.
- Handles: 3.8 cm cotton webbing, stitched from the top edge down the front and back panels, with box-X reinforcement at the stress points.
- Gusset: side snaps let the bag expand for packing and fold flat for storage.
- Closure: metal snap as standard; top zip or magnetic snap can be specified.
- Edges: bound seams on the top edge and gusset so no raw canvas is exposed.
- Base: reinforced base panel; metal feet optional.
Stitch density, webbing width and snap position are fixed per order and recorded on the production sheet, so a repeat order matches the first delivery.
Webbing Handles and Snap Gusset
Most totes attach the handles at four points, and those points take the entire load. Here the webbing continues down the body, so the pull is spread over the panel and the top edge does not tear under bottles or books. The stripe also works as a design element and can carry a printed message or a woven label.
The gusset snaps are a practical detail: open, the bag has a wide mouth for groceries, samples or catalogues; closed, it sits closer to the body and takes less space on a shelf or in a car boot.
Canvas, Lining and Colour Options
Standard canvas colours are natural, ecru, black, navy, olive and grey; custom dyeing starts at 1,000 pieces per colour with lab dips for approval. Webbing comes in a wide range, including the red shown, and can be matched to a Pantone reference.
The lining can be matched, tonal or contrasting. A dark lining hides marks in a grocery bag; a light lining is easier to see into. A wipe-clean coated lining is available for food, cosmetics and hospitality use.
Printing and Branding
Three print methods are available, and the right one depends on the artwork:
- UV printing: holds photographic detail, gradients and fine type without colour separation, with low setup cost.
- Heat transfer: suited to multicolour designs and small runs within an order, with a soft hand-feel on canvas.
- Screen printing: the most economical option for one to four spot colours and the most opaque result on dark canvas.
Positions are the front panel, back panel, gusset and webbing. The sample also shows an embroidered badge and a printed stripe on the webbing; embroidery, woven labels, leather patches and metal tags are available as separate trims.
The artwork in the photographs is a customer sample shown for construction reference only. Your own logo and colours replace it in production.
Custom Sizes and Configurations
Size is fully custom. Common briefs are 38 x 32 x 12 cm for a compact shopping tote, 42 x 35 x 15 cm for groceries and retail, 45 x 38 x 15 cm for a larger market bag and 35 x 30 x 10 cm for a conference or gift bag. A slim laptop version with a padded divider can be built on the same body.
Handle length is quoted as the clear drop: 25 cm sits at the hand, 35 cm clears the shoulder and 45 cm works over a coat. Interior pockets, a bottle sleeve, a key leash, a zip top and metal feet are quoted separately.
Where This Bag Works
The structured body makes this tote useful wherever a soft shopper would look tired. Grocery chains and zero-waste shops use it as a reusable bag that stands on the counter while it is packed. Boutiques and online stores use it as retail packaging that survives the trip home and gets reused. Companies order it for welcome kits, conferences and trade shows, where it has to hold catalogues and still look presentable at the end of the day.
Universities use it for orientation packs and alumni events, hotels as an in-room or beach amenity, beauty brands for gift-with-purchase sets and drinks producers for bottle carriers. Bookstores, museums and gallery shops sell it as branded merchandise, while bakeries, farmers markets and subscription boxes use it for recurring deliveries. Sports clubs, pet brands, NGOs and promotional campaigns order it because the print area is large and the bag is durable enough to be kept.
Care and Longevity
Spot clean the canvas with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air dry flat away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, because water and agitation can separate the bonded layers and distort the base. Wipe the lining with a damp cloth and store the bag flat with the gusset snapped closed.
MOQ, Price and Lead Time
The MOQ is 200 pieces per design and the reference price is US$9.00 per unit. Sampling takes 7 to 10 working days after artwork approval; bulk production is typically 25 to 35 days depending on quantity, print method and canvas stock. Shipping is quoted separately by sea, air or express, on EXW, FOB or door-to-door terms.
To quote we need the size, canvas colour, webbing colour, lining choice, print method, print placement, artwork and target quantity. If you only have a reference photo, send it and we will propose a specification before sampling.
Request a Quote
Send your artwork and target quantity through the request-a-quote form and we will reply with a specification sheet, unit price and sampling timeline. If you are comparing suppliers, we can quote against a sample you already hold so the comparison is like for like.
